A good poem for beginning of year

I found a great poem to use for around the beginning of the year to introduce my 6th graders to my reading class-it is by E.B. White. Next year I plan to use one poem per week to help my kids with reading fluency, english concepts, etc.

We have been doing this for the last several weeks-it’s funny to see how they react to the poems differently each week. They did NOT like the poem I used this past week because it was hard to understand! (It was hard to understand). But at least that makes them think!

What I want to be…..

It’s getting crazier and more chaotic the closer it gets to the end of school!!!! Why do I not ever remember this from year to year?????? I need to charge up my superpowers so that I can become………………………

I have lessons to plan, papers to grade, things to copy, emails to send, students to teach, students to discipline, meetings to attend, field day to organize, PTO event to work, certificates to complete, fundraisers to attend, money to collect, attendance to take, books to read, and a classroom to manage!!

Calgon-take me away!
