Of course it’s very late on Monday. In fact, it’s actually Tuesday because it’s 30 minutes past midnight! What am I still doing up??????
I have always been an avid reader and lover of books, but it’s just been in the past couple of years that I have really delved back into this passion. I’ve only started keeping up with what I read since around January of this year on my goodreads.com account. I set a goal to read 211 books this year, but I’ve only read 132 so far!! It’s looking like I might not reach this goal by the end of December. Unless I take some serious days off from work-which is NOT going to happen!
So here’s this past week in review. I read 2 more Clementine books by Sara Pennypacker. She has fast become one of my favorite characters this year. These books are such a simple read, and Clementine is a delightful and quirky character with a HUGE sense of humor!
I also read The Girl With The Silver Eyes by Willo Davis Roberts.
It was interesting because of the unique storyline-a girl with special powers who doesn’t have many friends because of her differences and longs to find others like her. I think my 6th graders would like this book because of the simple language and “special powers”.
I just started reading Eleven by Patricia Reilly Giff. I have finished chapter 1, and am drawn in by the possibility that Sam was a missing child when he was younger and of what he may find out if he continues to search. He was looking for hidden birthday presents in the attic when he discovered the newspaper article of himself (or so he thinks).
I would tell you what’s on my agenda for the upcoming week after Eleven, but I usually change my mind and can’t stick to a certain stack of books! But I always have that stack waiting for me!
What are you reading right now?

It was a great Monday! And I’m really trying to write this post but it’s so hard because Twilight is on!!! I know-I’ve become a Twi-hard!
It was nice to see the kids since I wasn’t at school on Thursday and Friday. 3 of my girls wrote me stories AND made me a welcome back poster!
We started off with our sentence in English which for some reason I can’t upload the picture for it tonight! That sentence doesn’t even sound right does it? I guess it’s sort of late, and my brain is not working to its capacity.
We did our paragraph writing/corrections-so far I’ve not had to “make” anybody share their writing-there’s always someone who is frothing at the bit to have theirs displayed on the ELMO.
We transferred our rough draft of our “reindeer” persuasive writing to the job application. Tomorrow they will draw and color a reindeer-this will be the 1st thing we have drawn/made/created this year.
This week we are working with predicting and making generalizations so I read them a story out of Chicken Soup for the Preteen Soul-”Grandfather Learns to Read”. I had them make simple predictions based on the title, and then we made more complex predictions and talked about the difference. As I read the story, we stopped and make more predictions. After we finished, we formed a generalization about the story and talked about faulty and valid generalizations.
Our question of the day was “How do we demonstrate our trustworthiness?” I listed their answers on the board. So I give up trying to upload ANY pictures tonight! Will do tomorrow.
We read our vocabulary story and talked about the words. Then I worked with 2 small groups-we talked about the words again and I had them write down short definitions for each word on the back of their study guides.
THE END! DID I SAY IT WAS A GREAT DAY???? IT WAS!!!
