Book Challenge-Day#1

My first book to read on my book challenge (that was inspired by Donalyn’s 3rd annual Book-a-Day Challenge for this summer) was……drumroll, please………………….

The Watsons Go To Birmingham by Christopher Paul Curtis.

Another 6th grade teacher in my district said she reads it aloud to her students each year, and now I know why! It was funny (lots of times I laughed out loud while reading it), real, and very endearing. The story involves  Kenny, a young boy, and his family and their trials and tribulations. I am definitely adding this to my list of read alouds for next year. Bullying is a central theme in this book along with prejedice-lots of good teachable moments to be found inside these covers.

Glad you found your way over to my blog! 🙂 I also read Weird Watsons to my students every year. They laugh like crazy and I have so much fun using different voices. This year,I think my class reacted in the most sad and thoughtful way to the bombing…so that was even nicer too.
