It’s Monday-What are you reading?

It’s another great Monday-well, as great as Mondays can be and since today we are out of school for the MLK holiday, uh it’s pretty great! 🙂

These are 2 wonderful memes hosted by Sheila at Book Journey and Jen and Kellee at Teach Mentor Texts. Sheila hosts the adult one and Jen and Kellee host the kids’ book meme.

Read last week

I have to say that I didn’t end up reading too awful much last week since we were back in school for a full week, and I have gotten into this fitness kick (yes, I am “trying” to train for a 5k). BUT-I did read everyday-just not “quite” as much as during winter break!

Mockingjay-Suzanne Collins-OMG!OMG! I finished The Hunger Games trilogy. I miss Katniss, Gale, Peeta, Prim, and the others. It was the best trilogy ever!!! I’m going to go ahead and admit that I have never read a trilogy before. I know-shocking. But, if I had read a trilogy before, I know it would still be the best one ever! 🙂

Run Your Butt Off-Editors of Runner’s World– This is the 1st informational type of book I have read in a looooong time. 2 weeks ago I started the C25k training program which is supposed to take me from being a couch potato to running a 5k in 9 weeks. 🙂 We’ll see. But I am determined-especially since my DH(darling husband is what that is “supposed” to stand for) told me I wouldn’t be able to do it. Oh, it’s on now! Today will start my 3rd week of training. So I thought that I needed SOME moral support and bought this book to help me. It was a great read. Very informal AND informative. Of course, it also talks A LOT about what we eat (and believe me when I say I LOVE TO EAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!). I had already decided when I started training that I was NOT going to stop eating, just train. But, do you know how hard it is to jog/walk 30 minutes (briskly) when you have eaten a lot that day???? Well, pretty hard. So yes-I am watching mainly how much I eat. Great read.

Babymouse#3-Beach Babe-Jennifer and Matt Holms-Raise your hand if you love Babymouse. I do, I do, I do, I do!!! I can’t get enough of her! So I broke down and bought the 3rd book-Beach Babe. And the great thing is that my reluctant (RELUCTANT) 6th grade readers love her, too. Finally, something they enjoy reading. 🙂 I’m just going to have to log in some more hours with my part-time job and buy the rest of them. Seriously. She CRACKS ME UP.

So besides magazines, blogs, blogs, blogs, and more blogs, that is all that I read last week.

Here’s what’s on the agenda for this week:

I’ve never read any of Roland Smith‘s books (even though I have a basket full of them in my classroom). I’ve read the 1st chapter so far and like it.

Other than this one, I don’t really have a plan for my reading this week. My week is pretty full, so I’ll just grab whatever catches my eye. Just so you know HOW full my week is, I’ll break it down for you.

Monday-1.take my car to get an estimate for the STUPID DEER that hit me last night coming back from my brother-in-law’s house-STUPID DEER-STUPID DEER……2. Train 3. Zumba (YEA, someone is starting a zumba class and it’s ONLY 9 miles from where we live!!!) and grade tests from Friday(lots of tests) 2. Train 3. Zumba

Wednesday-1. school and grade tests from Friday (still more tests) 2. Train 3. Eat mexican with my bestie, my daughter, and my bestie’s daughter(weekly thing!)

Thursday-1. school and will STILL be grading tests from Friday 2. Train 3. School board meeting

Friday-1. school 2. Leaving to go to Birmingham for a weekend AEA conference 🙂

Saturday-1. Conference

Sunday-1. Conference

Of course, all of the usual stuff thrown in there, too. Cook. Laundry. Errands. Try to clean house. Try to avoid cleaning house. Spend time with family. Blog. And finally-READ! 🙂

Have a great week! Oh, and check out my 2 other blogs about reading and fitness. 🙂

It’s Monday-What are you reading?

I have joined up with some other bloggers with this weekly meme about what I have read this past week and what is on my reading horizon for the upcoming week. Take a look by visiting my reading blog:

This reading meme is done each Monday and gives everyone a change to find some really good books. Or bad ones as well. 🙂

It’s Monday-What are you reading?

Sheila over at Book Journey is hosting this great meme-you can join in at anytime! It’s a great way to find some books to put on your ever growing TBR list!

What are you reading this week? I have to tell you that I never finished The Day My Butt Went Psycho.

I tried. I really tried. And may try again. But for now, there are too many great books that I want to read that make me feel and think. So for now, I’ll shelf it. 🙂

I just finished reading Stargirl by Jerry Spinelli, who I happen to love. It seems almost like a magical kind of story that wouldn’t really happen because in our society we are all so driven by the norm that most of us wouldn’t think of being different like Stargirl. She is one of a kind in a lovely way. I liked this book a lot, and Jerry’s use of some beautiful language was on the mark. Here are a couple of excerpts from the book that twinkled in my ears as I read:

“…now I was loopy with love. I was floating. I floated up the white light that washed my sheets and slept on the moon. In school I       was a yellow balloon, smiling and lazy, floating above the classrooms.”

“She was bendable light: she shone around every corner of my day.”

“And then the last remaining space between our lips was gone and I was falling headlong into her eyes…..”

How beautiful is that??

Another book that was a quick read was Stir it Up by Ramin Ganeshram.

It was a good book, but not too deep. The culture that was within this book would definitely make it a tough book for my 6th graders from ALABAMA! 🙂 The main character has a passion for cooking and dreams about having her own kids’ cooking show. I enjoyed the book, but it didn’t make me think or feel, so it wouldn’t be on the top of list of  books to recommend.

I read a picture book to my 6th graders so we could work on visualization some more. An all time favorite, Santa’s Stuck by Rhonda Gowler Greene.

It was adorable! Need I say more?

What will I read in the upcoming week? It’s hard for me to list them because I tend to change my mind often!!! I have a huge pile of books that I just bought, a huge pile that have been bought for some time, and $50 in birthday money that I have designated for some MORE books. So……. we’ll see!

What are you reading?

It’s Monday-What Are You Reading?

What are you reading meme is hosted by Sheila over at Book Journey. It’s a chance to become overwhelmed  get great reading ideas from other bookworms! 🙂

Check out what Jen, Kellee, and Mrs. Duke are reading:

Teach Mentor Texts

Mrs. Duke

I read THE BEST book I think I have ever read this past week! You have got to get this book and read it-you will not be disappointed! Okay For Now by Gary Schmidt is unbelievable. He takes you inside the head of Doug, a middle school kid, who not only has to face the daily drudgery of a middle school life, but also has to move to a new town and live with the abuse of his father. You will love Doug and be sad to let him go.

I’m currently reading Clarice Bean Spells Trouble by Lauren Child. Oh, so funny! I thought I had met a truly unique character in the Clementine books, but Clarice is giving Clementine a run for her money. I have laughed out loud so much while reading this book-I thinks she’s a little ADD! But who isn’t???? If you like simple reads with quirky characters who make you laugh-read it!

This is what I have planned in the upcoming week. I’ll finish Clarice Bean Spells Trouble. My list is this:

The Day my Butt Went Psycho by Andy Griffiths (Yes, I think my 6th graders will like it-don’t they like all disgusting things??)

And not sure what else-it’s going to be busy so we’ll see.

What have you read lately?
